DSL Internet & Cable Internet are two different types of Broadband Internet connection.
DSL uses same wires as a regular telephone line and so require a phone line to get connected. Cable Internet uses cable television connection to deliver internet service to your home.
Connection Speed
DSL Internet - Basic DSL Internet speeds range from 768 Kbps to 1.5 Mbps. Speed of DSL Internet depends on the distance from your home to service provider's office. The further you live from their office the slower your connection speed will be. You will get same speed no matter how many people are sharing the connection.

If more people in your neighborhood share the same cable Internet connection network, then slower speed you will get.

DSL Internet - DSL Internet is not available in all areas.
Cable Internet - Cable Internet is available to anyone who can receive can receive cable television.

For pricing, you need to take into consideration installation fees, and regular monthly price.
DSL Internet - DSL is less expensive than cable, available from $20 to $40 price range. Installation is free if you follow self-installation kit provided by service provider. If a service technician visits your location and install your internet service then you may need to pay $100-$200 installation fee.
Cable Internet - Cable is more expensive than DSL, available from $40 to $60 price range. Installation is free if you follow self-installation kit provided by service provider. Professional installation price ranges from $50 to $100.

DSL Internet - DSL Modem is require to use DSL Internet service. Most of the service provider provides modem free with service or you can buy for $35 to $45 one time fee. You need to connect DSL modem to phone jack to use your Internet service.
Cable Internet - Cable Modem is require to use cable Internet service. Most of the service provider provides modem free with service or you can buy for $40 to $50 one time fee. You need to connect Cable modem to cable jack to use your Internet service.

DSL Internet - AT&T, Verizon, Qwest, Embarq are most popular DSL Internet service provider. If you have already home phone service from them then you may get DSL Internet for less price. Many provider offers DSL Internet service that doesn't require home phone service, also known as naked DSL.
Cable Internet - Comcast, Road Runner, Charter are most popular DSL Internet service provider. Most provider combines cable internet and cable tv service to provide you services for one low monthly price.
